Rationale:
This resource package has been developed for a Stage Two, Year Three class, to support the teaching and learning outcomes of the Archdiocese of Sydney unit of work '3.7 Eucharist: Jesus is with us'.
The sacrament of the Eucharist (Holy Communion) is one of the three sacraments of initiation. It is a source of grace and assists us in developing likeliness to Jesus Christ. It is the third and final sacrament of the process of initiation into the Christian faith and church community. It is based on the meal that Jesus shared with his disciples at the Last Supper, and it encourages us to reflect on Jesus' life, death and resurrection, and appreciate the sacrifice that He made for us.
For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes (1 Corinthians 11:26).
While recognising that parents are the first educators of their children in faith, the Primary Religious Education curriculum enables young people to see and respond to God in their lives (CEO Sydney, 2014). The Catholic school is the principal educational arm of Catholic families, parishes, and the wider Church, and is there to assist parents and parishes in their educational, evangelical, catechetical mission (Bishops of NSW and ACT, 2007).
